Why Amazon.de listings are removed: six legal causes and how to fix each

Short answer

The law in several places directly requires platforms to obtain a seller's registration details before letting it use the platform; marketplaces may not enable offers of unregistered electrical devices; and platforms must suspend sellers whose data stays inaccurate. Behind a removal notice there is usually one of the six causes below. ElektroG § 6 Abs. 2 Satz 2 Nr. 2; Verordnung (EU) 2025/40 Art. 45 Abs. 4; Verordnung (EU) 2023/1542 Art. 62 Abs. 6; DSA Art. 30 Abs. 3

The key facts at a glance

WEEE
Not properly registered: marketplaces may not enable offers of its devices. ElektroG § 6 Abs. 2 Satz 2 Nr. 2
Batteries
Platforms must obtain the producer's battery registration number. Verordnung (EU) 2023/1542 Art. 62 Abs. 6
Packaging
Platforms must obtain the producer's packaging registration details and number. Verordnung (EU) 2025/40 Art. 45 Abs. 4
GPSR
The listing must show manufacturer and EU responsible person details. GPSR Art. 19 Buchst. a; GPSR Art. 19 Buchst. b
Seller data (DSA)
Inaccurate data left uncorrected: the platform must swiftly suspend the service. DSA Art. 30 Abs. 3
EPR pay-on-your-behalf
Amazon's own page: selling products subject to EPR without a valid EPR registration number leads to automatic enrolment in its pay-on-your-behalf service. Amazon.de: Umweltsicherheit und EPR

Figure 1. Four steps after a removal notice

1. WEEE: no registration number

While the manufacturer or its representative is not properly registered, marketplace operators may not enable offering or making available of its devices. ElektroG § 6 Abs. 2 Satz 2 Nr. 2

The manufacturer must also state the registration number on offers and invoices. ElektroG § 6 Abs. 3

Fix: appoint a German representative and complete registration (see the WEEE guide); then state the number on the offer.

2. Batteries: no battery registration number

Online platforms must obtain the producer's battery registration details and registration number before allowing the seller to use their services. Verordnung (EU) 2023/1542 Art. 62 Abs. 6

Fix: see the BattDG guide for battery registration. Check power banks, headphones and lamps with built-in batteries.

3. Packaging: no LUCID number

Online platforms must first obtain the producer's packaging registration details and number in the Member State of the consumer. Verordnung (EU) 2025/40 Art. 45 Abs. 4

Fix: see the LUCID registration guide and the 12 November deadline guide.

4. GPSR: incomplete listing information

The listing must show the manufacturer's details and, if it is outside the EU, the name, postal and electronic address of the EU responsible person. GPSR Art. 19 Buchst. a; GPSR Art. 19 Buchst. b

Fix: use the four-item list in the GPSR guide.

5. DSA: inaccurate seller data

If the platform has reason to believe your data is inaccurate it asks you to correct it; if you do not, it must swiftly suspend selling services for the EU. DSA Art. 30 Abs. 3

Fix: see the DSA Article 30 guide and check name, address, ID and payment account.

6. EPR: Amazon's pay-on-your-behalf service

Amazon's page states that when a seller sells products subject to EPR and has not submitted a valid EPR registration number, Amazon automatically enrols it in the "EPR pay on your behalf" service. Amazon.de: Umweltsicherheit und EPR

Amazon pays the take-back organisations on your behalf and then invoices you. Amazon.de: Umweltsicherheit und EPR

Before using this service instead of registering yourself, find out which duties it covers and what it costs; the conditions are those stated in your Amazon account.
